Geranium bourbon essential oil is considered to be the finest geranium available, contains no ‘10-epi-gamma-eudesmol’ and around 30% less ‘citronellol’. In simple terms, therapeutically its no better than the Egyptian geranium, it simply smells superior and lends itself very well towards the perfumer. Geranium bourbon is green in colour, grown in Reunion. Like the majority of flower oils, it is antidepressant and antiseptic. Geranium bourbon essential oil is also a valuable astringent and a haemostatic (it stops bleeding), which makes it very useful in treating injuries. It also promotes speedy healing. It is used in skincare, for its delightful perfume, for its astringent and antiseptic properties and for its action in balancing the production of sebum. This makes geranium bourbon valuable for skins that are excessively dry or oily, or for dry skins with oily patches. Also within the world of perfumery this material is a must for building luxury rose accords, works great in creations with green top notes, pairs especially well with carnation and generally supports fruity compositions very well.

Although it has the same therapeutic properties as other types of Geranium oil, Geranium (Bourbon) is preferred by many aromatherapists because of it superior fragrance and because it blends so well with a vast array of other aromatherapy oils.

History: The plants originated from South Africa as well as Reunion, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco and were introduced to European countries such as Italy, Spain and France in the 17th century.
