Coriander Oil | Coriandrum sativum
Coriander is a fragrant annual herb with delicate white flowers turning into masses of round seeds. The essential oil is steam distilled from the crushed, ripe seeds.
People have used coriander for thousands of years—Romans and Greeks flavored their wines with it, while Indians added it to their cooking. Archaeologists even discovered coriander seeds in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Moreover, the Carmelite order in France used coriander seeds to scent their 17th-century toilet water, and distillers still include it in Chartreuse and Benedictine liqueurs today.
The aroma of Coriander essential oil is just like the fresh cilantro herb, bright, lemony and vibrant. It is fabulous when added to aromatherapy massage oils, bathing products or body spray. See our recipe tab for a fabulous uplifting massage oil blend.
Coriander Seed is one of the gentler spice essential oils. It helps to ease the mind and fight fatigue and is a good digestive tonic, helping to relieve nausea and flatulence. It also helps to restore the appetite.
